École d'été internationale : "Dealing with big data and big models in biology: current challenges in bioinformatics"

La troisième édition de l'école d’été internationale bioinformatique "Dealing with big data and big models in biology : current challenges in bioinformatics" aura lieu du 26 juin au 7 juillet. Elle est destinée aux étudiants (de la L3 jusqu’au post-doc) en biologie, médecine, pharmacie, diplôme d’ingénieur, etc. qui souhaitent ouvrir leur champ de compétences à la bioinformatique. Cette école est organisée par l’Université d’Angers et soutenue par le projet GRIOTE, auquel participe l’Université de Nantes.

Bioinformatics is an exciting new area of interdisciplinary science. The future of many biological and medical studies promotes smart use of computational tools as an essential knowledge in scientists background. The program developed in this summer school aims at bringing students the ability to conduct ambitious biological studies from big data analysis to extract relevant biomarkers to large scale models engineering in order to enhance biological production. Topics to be covered include different fields of bioinformatics: data processing of genomic data, optimization methods in systems biology, statistics and classification for biomarker extraction, meta-genomics and a few more. Focus is also made on valorization concerns and technology transfer. Workshops and visits of institutes in bioinformatics facilities are of course included.

This program is ideal for those wishing to develop advanced skills in bioinformatics. Prior experience in computer science and computer programming is not required.

This summer school is aimed at undergraduate students from 3rd year to Ph.D. in biological sciences / medicine / pharmacy / informatics / engineering or other scientific background. 

The course will be entirely taught in English.

    • Session 1: Introduction to protein structure prediction
    • Session 2: Visit of the BIBS platform and a zoom on the ABC's of proteomics
    • Session 3: Visit of the genomics and bioinformatics "GenoBIRD" core facility in Nantes - Next generation sequencing (NGS) in genetics and genomics
    • Session 4: Ontologies and biology databases
    • Session 5: Environmental Genomics
    • Session 6: Artificial Intelligence for bioinformatics
    • Session 7: Association mapping and system genetics - from GWAs to function
    • Session 8: Statistics and classification on genomic data
    • Session 9:  Introduction to Metabolic Networks
    • Session 10: Analysis of proteomics data : a case study
    • Session 11: Bioinformatics and business companies

Le Groupement de Recherche en Intégration de données Omics à Très grande Echelle (GRIOTE) est un projet fédérateur de la bioinformatique en région Pays de la Loire. Jérémie Bourdon, professeur au LS2N (Laboratoire des Sciences du Numérique de Nantes) est l'un des porteurs de ce projet en collaboration avec l'Institut du Thorax et l'INRA.
